I painted this in one go sitting on Glastonbury Tor during the July '06 heatwave. I was driving between Winchester and Cornwall and decided to stop off and indulge in a spot of artistic creativity while assorted Glastonbury types peered over my shoulder as I painted.

Whilst painting this study I was thinking about the idea that a painter should use complementary colours when painting shadows. So, I used some red in the shadows of the trees on the green grass. As I understand it, this is how we perceive colours in the world around us.

This is a painting of The Warren, an area of land by the sea at the foot of some white cliffs near Folkestone. In this painting you can see these cliffs and a concrete esplanade which I believe was built in the second world war.
