View South from Glastonbury Tor

date: 24th July 2006
size: 20 x 30 cms
price: £200
I painted this in one go sitting on Glastonbury Tor during the July 06 heatwave. I was driving between Winchester and Cornwall and decided to stop off and indulge in a spot of artistic creativity while assorted Glastonbury types peered over my shoulder as I painted.

I painted this at the end of the day as the sun was setting, making strong colours and casting strong shadows. The subject is a common sight in the south of France.

image of Trees in Folkestone

Trees in Folkestone

date: June 2005
size: 14.5 x 24 cms
price: £200
Whilst painting this study I was thinking about the idea that a painter should use complementary colours when painting shadows. So, I used some red in the shadows of the trees on the green grass. As I understand it, this is how we perceive colours in the world around us.

price: £200
This is a painting of The Warren, an area of land by the sea at the foot of some white cliffs near Folkestone. In this painting you can see these cliffs and a concrete esplanade which I believe was built in the second world war.

Painting of Sandgate

Sandgate

date: April 2004
size: 17 x 24 cms
price: £200
This study was painted on a cold, bleak and very windy day, looking west along the coast at Sandgate. I stopped painting at the point when I couldn't take the weather any more.
