Penwith is a favourite spot of mine to go painting, as it is of many other Cornish painters who I rate highly. This area of Cornwall is west of St Ives and the Cornish coastal path runs along the top of the cliffs there.

Painting of Nare Head from Portscatho

Nare Head from Portscatho

date: 7th August 2006
size: 31 x 35 cms
price: £400

This painting was inspired by a similar image I saw by an English painter called Jane Patterson. She painted a similar view of Nare Head which made a strong impression on me, so I decided to go to Portscatho and paint my own version. At the time I had also been looking at work by artists such as Bonnard and the Fauves. I tried to include something of their freedom and spontaneity and not obsess over details but enjoy the act of painting itself.
